USE OF HERBAL MEDICINES FOR MASSES
March 28, 2011
The call of the hour is to first shun outright the unnatural drug therapies. We have to be convinced that, the more deviated we are from nature, the more we are for the trouble.
For centuries people had been eating apple, yet it was for Newton to discover the law of gravity by observing the apple fall from the tree. In the same way, the law of cure has been there ever since the creation of plants and human being, and the people have been unknowingly applying it and getting cured.
Yet it is for the intellectuals to go deep into it and make more beneficial for the humanity. A common man is not interested in what the law of cure is. He is to be provided with thumb-rules and simple guidelines in different ailments. Below are given a few examples:
The above examples are just to show how guidelines for the use of different medicinal plants may be prepared for the common diseases in an area. It may be noted that there are different medicines for different type of fevers, and the holds good for all type of diseases. In fact, for true cure, the name of a disease has no value. It is very misleading to say that a particular drug is useful in fever, or diabetes, or hyper tension etc.

BACH FLOWER REMEDIES: RED CHESTNUT
February 22, 2011
Over – anxiety for others.
‘Red Chestnut’ relates to the soul potentials of solicitude and love of other fellow beings—relatives, neighbours and other human beings remotely connected and even those having no relationship at all except the common bond of being a human being.
In the positive ‘Red Chestnut’ state-the person feels concerned about the safety and well-being of the person in distress but he keeps his cool, and is able to convey his positive thoughts and guidance for others even from a distance. He takes care to radiate only positive thoughts of safety, well-being and encouragement to the afflicted person. If he visits a relative in an emergency ward, he wears a calm and re-assuring look on his face and does not evince any anxiety on his face. In the negative Red Chestnut state the person has fear and anxiety for the other person. This anxiety may have a justifiable cause—as a relative having been removed to an emergency ward after a serious road accident, or it may be without any cause—only an imaginary fear about the safety of a person. “I do not worry for myself, but what would happen to my children after I am dead and gone?”
“Whenever my child goes to play football, my nerves remain taut with the fear that he may get inj ured”, “Ever since I got my child admitted into the school hostel I have lost my sleep. Who would feed him properly and who would look after him if he fell ill”. “He was convalescing quite well and it was expected he would be discharged from the nursing home in a couple of days, but since he heard about an accident to his son, he has reverted to the previous position”.
“My young daughter is expected by night plane to day, but till she reaches home safely I am worried”, “Uncle was free from asthmatic attack for the last 2 months, thanks to the homoeopathic treatment. But when he heard of the serious accident to Jhelum Express, in which his son and his wife were travelling, his old trouble has returned”.

BACH FLOWER REMEDIES: OLIVE – MISS. DIMPLE’S & JAI DEV’S CASE
January 10, 2011
Miss. Dimple could not be made to study History. The subject bored her. She had failed in this subject in the previous examination, and the private tutor did not give any hope of her faring any better in the next examination.
Whenever she opened her History Book, she felt bored after reading a new lines and closed the book to study some other subject. She had lately developed a fear of this subject.
She was prescribed ‘OLIVE’ (to enable her to do uninteresting work i.e. to study History) and MIMULUS (to remove fear of History).
After taking these remedies thrice a day for one week, she could sit to study History just like any other subject.
Jai Dev had a very sharp intellect but a weak body. He was very good at studies, but could never score more than 80% marks in his examination, because he could never complete his paper. His hands got tired and the fingers would not hold the pen after writing a few pages.
‘OLIVE’ remedy was prescribed T.D.S for 15 days before the examination and the result was very encouraging. He could score 80% marks in the examination.

BACH FLOWER REMEDIES: ASPEN – THE CASE OF A NEWLY WED GIRL
December 6, 2010
I remember the case of a newly wed girl whose family life was saved from ruination by the timely administration of Aspen Remedy’
Case no 1. Mrs. Swarnjit Kaur, a very beautiful girl coming from a well to do family was married to a handsome boy of an equally well-to-do family. Both families were very well-known to each other and were already having common relatives. So there was no trauma of a new bride entering an unknown family. The girl received as much love and affection in her husband’s house as she got in her parental home. Yet she did not appear to be properly adjusted.
For the last 6 months she avoided meeting people in her in-law’s house. Her in-laws were very sociable people with very large number of friends and relatives. When these people came to see the bride, to offer their blessings and gifts, she would gratefully accept the gifts with a smile and a few words, but would soon retire to her room. Evidently she was avoiding sitting in society. This placed her in-laws in a very awkward position. They could not explain why the new bride could not adjust in the new family and mix freely with others.
I cajoled her in confiding to me, that she was subject to fits of unspecified fears at odd times. She had consulted several doctors but nobody had a clue to her malady. She avoided sitting in new society due to her ASPEN’ fear. Because if she got a fit of her unspecified fear while sitting in new society, it would put herself and her parents-in-law in a very awkward position having to explain to one and all “What is wrong with the new bride”? Besides it would in. ite unnecessary gossiping amongst not-so-sincere ‘well-wishers’.

NATURAL SLEEP – PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
April 9, 2009
Based on this difference between divine and magical dreams, we must bear in mind that God has not used dreams to transmit the progressive steps of his purpose since the conclusion of his inspired Word. The fulfilment of his written prophecies is sufficient to reveal his purposes. Knowing this will protect us from falling victim to metaphysical influences. Once you understand their real origin you will reject them in the interests of your own well-being, guarding yourself against their evil intent. The disastrous influence of metaphysical powers to which some people open their minds can be clearly seen in India and other Far Eastern lands, where dreams and visions have been known to plague and mislead the population.
As regards modern interpretations of dreams, it would be better to treat the subject with healthy scepticism and sobriety. In spite of scientific research, dreams are still a borderline area of unexplained processes and it is most advisable to observe a healthy, natural way of life that will keep your sleep as free as possible from vivid dreams.

THE INFLUENCE OF CORRECT BREATHING ON ILLNESS – LUNGS, CHESTS AND DIAPHRAGMS
If children were to be taught correct breathing at school, their lungs, chests and diaphragms would develop properly and respiratory problems of the chest and lungs, as well as obesity, would remain practically unknown. At the same time, they need to be given calcium-rich foods. All these things make for healthy growth of the internal organs and prevent the lungs from weakening.
Singing teachers take great care in helping their students to achieve success by training them in proper breathing techniques. This is why professional singers never lose sight of the importance of correct breathing.
How much time should we spend on breathing exercises? To begin with, one minute may be sufficient. Gradually the time should be increased, to two minutes, then five minutes and so forth, until the correct way of breathing becomes habitual and automatic under any circumstances. As already stated, the exercises should gradually be extended to fifteen minutes. Regularity in practising the exercises is of the utmost importance because it helps the body to become accustomed to a new rhythm; in this way we will find that deep-breathing is better than any other form of exercise. This is a ‘medicine’ that is within the reach of everyone and costs nothing but a little effort, concentration and perseverance.
We recognise with gratitude the help obtained from natural remedies and food, from rest and proper exercise. But are we aware that it is only through correct breathing that we will crown the other therapeutic successes, adding the finishing touches to them? Once this is so we will then prove the principle that ‘breathing means life’ to be true.

COFFEE – MAKING SAUERKRAUT AT HOME (PART 2)
Of course, sauerkraut can be made without the onions. It is important, however, that the preparation is done in a warm room and that the cabbage it left to stand for two or three weeks in a room not under 20 °C (68 °F). After that, place the container somewhere cool so that there is no butyric acid fermentation, which could ruin the contents. If you prepare sauerkraut without salt, you must make sure that you exclude all air from the container and that everything is scrupulously clean so that it will keep well.
Formerly 1-2 per cent salt was used, in other words, 100—200 g for every 10 kg of cabbage (4-8 oz for every 20 lb). Nowadays, 0.5 per cent salt or less is considered enough, since it has been found that too much salt reduces the lactic acid fermentation, resulting in an inferior product.

SUGAR – THE GOODNESS OF DATES (REFINED SUGAR)
While our children spoil their teeth with all sorts of sweets made from refined sugar, the children of those desert tribes have nothing but dates to satisfy their sweet tooth. It is not without good reason that dates are called the ‘meat’ of the desert Arabs. Their children eat a large amount of date sugar but still have healthy teeth, just like those of the Indian children who satisfy their desire for sweet things by eating green sugar cane or pilosillo, the condensed sugar cane juice.
What a pity that we are not similarly inclined and satisfied with simple natural things! If we could avoid the use of refined sugar, which contributes to tooth decay and many other degenerative conditions, our children’s teeth would be much better. What is more, refined sugar is now about three times dearer than it was just a few years ago. So there are many reasons why we should try to eliminate it from our diet as much as possible, substituting fruit sugar instead.

HELPFUL DIETS FOR THE SICK A – FASTING (FEELING SICK)
Should you feel sick during the fast, you will be well advised to speed up the elimination by encouraging the skin function. Friction baths, vigorous washing and towelling or brushing down will stimulate the circulation, while deep-breathing exercises will likewise help to get rid of the feeling of sickness. Short walks in the woods and along country lanes, breathing in the aromatic air, will soon restore a feeling of health and well-being.
If you feel very hungry, chew a few raisins slowly and thoroughly. The Bedouins wandering in the desert often live on nothing but a few dates a day, because they obtain the full benefit from this frugal meal by chewing it thoroughly and so predigesting it properly. In the same way we can help ourselves during our special period of fasting. Spit out the skins of the raisins and just enjoy the grape sugar.

SESAME SEEDS – EXCELLENT FOR THE LIVER (TREATMENT)
April 7, 2009
No liver complaint should be treated lightly, but if the patient follows the advice given, he will soon be on the mend. Solidago, as usual, should be taken to stimulate the kidneys. Horsetail and witch grass root tea are alternatives. If the patient runs a temperature, and it is not unusual for it to reach 39 °C (102 °F), then Ferrum phos. 12x, diluted holly infusion, Aconitum 4x or any other good fever remedy is called for. A daily dose of one or two tablets of Podophyllum 3x, and according to the circumstances, three or four drops of Chelidonium 4x or the combination remedy Boldocynara should be taken. Condensed carrot juice, Biocarottin, is also beneficial.
